In May 1980, Richard Chiu founded the Warwick Hotels and Resorts (WHR) Group upon the purchasing of the iconic 426-room Warwick New York, a flagship hotel built in 1926 by media tycoon William Randolph Hearst. In subsequent years, the hotel was fully renovated and is now a well-established 4 star deluxe hotel in Midtown, New York. Today, WHR owns and operates 6 hotels in the U.S.A.. In addition, WHR also owns and operates the Warwick Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas, generally considered the leading hotel on Paradise Island.

Richard Chiu intends to continue to expand WHR through three business models: hotel acquisitions in appropriate locations; to develop affiliations with like-minded independently owned hotels; and management and franchise contracts with third party owners who share WHR values.
