Andrew Chamblin Memorial Lecture 2016

This year's Andrew Chamblin Memorial Lecture took place on Wednesday 16th March, as part of the Cambridge Science Festival. The lecture, ‘Harnessing the Quantum World’, was given by Professor Raymond Laflamme of the University of Waterloo’s Institute for Quantum Computing. Professor Laflamme discussed the potential uses of quantum mechanics in modern information science.

Andrew Chamblin was a physicist and a Fellow of Pembroke College. He specialised in theoretical physics, and while studying at Cambridge he was supervised by Professor Stephen Hawking. He died in 2006, at the age of 36. The University of Cambridge established the Andrew Chamblin Memorial Lecture Fund shortly afterwards and the inaugural lecture, ‘Out of a Black Hole’, was given by Professor Stephen Hawking in 2007.
