Celebrating the life of Javid Iqbal

On Wednesday 9 November, Pembroke College will be holding an event to mark the life of the late Javid Iqbal (1949), philosopher and senior justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Dr Iqbal was the son of Sir Muhammad Iqbal, academic, poet, philosopher and the 'spiritual father of Pakistan'.

The event will include the official book launch of 'Life after Iqbal' written by Sabeena Khan. The book is an insight into what happened to Sir Muhammad Iqbal's vision after his death in 1938, up to today, through the eyes of his children, Dr Iqbal & Muneera Iqbal. The book celebrates and explores the lives of his children living through the legacy that he left behind.

Pembroke has long links with the Iqbal family. Dr Iqbal came to Pembroke College to read for a PhD in Islamic Philosophy in 1949. His son, Walid then followed in his footsteps, coming up to Pembroke to read for an MPhil in International Relations in 1989.

The event will start at 11am, in Pembroke College's Old Library, with an introductory talk by Ms Khan. It will be followed by the reflections of Mr Iqbal and then a question and answer session. It is expected to finish by 1pm and tea and coffee will be available. All welcome
