Dr Stephanie Smith Wins Student-Led Teaching Award

Pembroke Bye-Fellow and Director in Studies for Chemistry, Dr Stephanie Smith has been awarded the 2020 CUSU Student-led Teaching Award for Innovative Teaching, which recognises, “methods or styles that are particularly innovative, creative or original”.

One of the students who nominated Dr Smith for this award described her has as “…consistently going above and beyond to deliver the highest calibre teaching I have received in my time at Cambridge…Always working hard on our behalf. They are ready and eager to answer any questions we have and always do so with a curious and encouraging attitude...Basically, this person is just a flipping legend.”

The Student Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs) were introduced by CUSU in 2014 to allow students to formally recognise the effort and skill put in by those who work at the collegiate university, from teachers and academics, through to porters and cleaners. CUSU explains that “These awards are an opportunity for students to thank staff for their support and to send a clear message about what it is that we care about to the university so we can encourage them to support that too.” Indeed over 500 nominations were received across the nine categories.

Pembroke Fellow, Dr Nick Jones (Materials Science) was also shortlisted, in the category of best Postgraduate Supervisor.
