Emily Jones wins Longman-History Today Award

Pembroke Fellow Dr Emily Jones has been awarded the Longman-History Today Book of the Year award for her book 'Edmund Burke and the Invention of Modern Conservatism'.

The award was created to foster a wider understanding of, and enthusiasm for, history. Dr Jones' book explores how Edmund Burke, an Irish Whig, became seen as the father of modern conservatism. She asks how ideas like conservatism become constructed over time, and how people like Burke are taken out of their historical context over time to become important ideological figures.
