#GivingTuesday – Thank you!

giving tuesday (100px)Pembroke thanks everyone who took the time to make a gift to the Jo Cox Studentship on "Giving Tuesday",Tuesday 29 November 2016. Nearly one hundred donors made a donation, raising over £13,500.

Giving Tuesday is a worldwide initiative supported by the Charities Aid Foundation to encourage support for UK charities. Pembroke College encouraged its Members, staff and Fellows to support Giving Tuesday by announcing that any gift made to the College that day would be put towards the Jo Cox PhD Studentship, which will be established in memory of Jo Cox MP (née Leadbeater, 1992).

The College aims to establish consecutive, or even endowed, PhD studentships in her name for research into refugee and migration studies, causes which meant so much to Jo. They will be open open to anyone in the world, provided they can show the requisite academic merit. A PhD studentship can cost more than £35,000 per year, so the money raised on 29 November alone is an amazing start.
