Honorary Fellow Clive James celebrated at Bafta TV Awards

Clive James (1964) has been honoured at the Bafta Television Awards in London.

The author, critic and broadcaster received a Bafta Special Award in recognition of his prolific fifty year career.

A tribute at the ceremony on Sunday 10th May was led by Charlie Brooker. It included a short film highlighting some of James' best-known work.

Amanda Berry, Bafta’s chief executive, called James 'a warm, witty and knowledgeable presenter whose programmes left a vivid impression on so many viewers, myself included'.

James was too ill to attend the ceremony, so accepted his award through a video message filmed earlier this year.

Last month James launched his latest book of poetry, Sentenced to Life, at a private event in the Old Library at Pembroke College.

Classicist Mary Beard was among the gathered group of writers and broadcasters, and called his reading 'brilliant and funny'.

Clive James is an Honorary Fellow of Pembroke. He is the author of numerous books, including Unreliable Memoirs (1980), Cultural Amnesia: Notes in the Margin of My Time (2007) and a translation of Dante's Divine Comedy (2013).

In 2014, James was awarded the President's Medal of the British Academy and in 2012 he was appointed CBE ‘for services to literature and the media’.
