Memorial service for James Crowden

The memorial service for James Crowden will be held at 11am on Monday 5 December in Ely Cathedral. Members of Pembroke are very welcome to attend the service and are encouraged to wear PCBC blazers or ties if they have them. It is anticipated that the service will be very well supported, as James contributed so much, for so long, to the sport of rowing and to his home county of Cambridgeshire. As well as rowing for - and coaching - Pembroke and the University, James represented Great Britain in the coxless four at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Over the next five decades he served as a council member of the Amateur Rowing Association (1955-1977), as Vice President of the British Olympic Association, as steward of Henley Royal Regatta, High Sherriff of Cambridgeshire (1970), Vice Lord-Lieutenant (1985-1992) and Lord-Lieutenant (1992-2002).
