“Nothing Succeeds Like Excess”: Princely Magnificence and an Ottoman Gift to Nadir Shah Afshar

Professor J M Rogers, Khalili Professor Emeritus of Islamic Art at SOAS, will deliver the first of this year's Cambridge Lectures in Islamic Art on Thursday 29 October 2015.

Entitled "Nothing Succeeds Like Excess": Princely Magnificence and an Ottoman Gift to Nadir Shah Afshar, the talk will take place in the Nihon Room at 5.30pm.

Professor Rogers is also the Honorary Curator of the Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art and a member of the Nour Foundation.

The talk is open to all and light refreshments will be served in the Nihon Room.

The Cambridge Lectures in Islamic Art are sponsored by the Fari Sayeed Fellowship and the Shahnama Centre for Persian Studies at Pembroke College. The next talk will be delivered by Professor Christiane Gruber (Uni of Michigan) on Thursday 19 November and is entitled Muhammed Among the Great Men of the World: Enlightenment, Nationhood and early 20th Century Iranian Carpets.
