Pembroke People on Progress 1000 list
Pembroke alumni, and College Musician Joseph Middleton, have been listed on the Evening Standard's Progress 1000 list, which celebrates London's most influential people.
Dr Beth Singler (1999) researches the social and religious implications of advances in Artificial Intelligence and robotics. The Progress 1000 list describes her as "your go-to woman if you want to understand the wider social and religious implications of AI and bots". Joseph Middleton is an acclaimed musician who accompanies some of the most distinguished Lieder singers in the world. As Pembroke's College Musician he runs the Pembroke Lieder Scheme and the Sir Arthur Bliss Song Series, which brings the best of Lieder music to Pembroke. Naomie Harris (1995) tops the 'screen' list as "one of the UK's hardest working actresses". She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the 2016 film Moonlight.
Jack Thorne (1998) is a prolific writer currently best-known for writing the script of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He has continued to write, adapting Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck for the Old Vic and branched out into musicals with the anarchic Junkyard (collaborating with composer Stephen Warbeck). He’s currently working with Shane Meadows on The Virtues, a gritty drama series for Channel 4. His work earned him his place on the 'performers' section of the Progress 1000 list.
Tim Marlow (1984)is the Artistic Director at the Royal Academy of Arts. He entry in the 'visualisers' list recognises the energy and dynamism he brings to the RA's galleries.
Jame Daunt (1982), Managing Director at Waterstones, features on the 'literati' list. Waterstones continues to open new branches despite the increasing popularity of e-books and online sales from providers like Amazon.
