Two shows by the Pembroke Players are opening at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this week.

Occupied was first staged at the Corpus Playroom last year after it won the Other Prize for an original, unperformed play by a Cambridge student. Newspaper The Cambridge Student said: 'Harry Buckoke’s piece casts a comedic, irreverent but ultimately affectionate eye on the many pitfalls of student occupations and the radical left.' Both Varsity and The Cambridge Tab gave it four star reviews.

Occupied runs 11th-23rd August at Greenside Venues, Royal Terrace.

The play is a retelling of Homer's Odyssey from the point of view of Odysseus' wife, Penelope, and 'puts a modern punch back into an ancient tale'. This version of the play was first performed in Cambridge last November. Since then there have several changes to the cast, but the lead role will once again by played by Pembroke student Aoife Kennan. In an interview with The Cambridge Tab, the show's producer Alex Cartlidge said: 'We’re being funded by the Pembroke Players, who are a really brilliant society, and we’re really grateful for their support.'

The Penelopiad runs 10th-25th August at C. Book tickets here.
