Pembroke Retain Cuppers Crown With Penalty Victory Over Queens'

The Victorious PWAFC 2020 Cuppers Team

The Pembroke women's football team (PCWAFC) have retained their Cuppers title, after beating Queens' College in a hard-fought match at Pembroke Pitches (Saturday 7 March 2020). Captained by Mariana Barona, this is PCWAFC's third Cuppers triumph in four years,

Queens’ took a deserved one-nil lead mid-way through the first half.

Although Queens' weren't unduly troubled for most of the match, Pembroke finally managed to equalise towards the end of the second half.

Two nervy halves of extra-time ended scoreless and the match went to penalties. Pembroke led from the start and never lost their advantage, winning 1-1 (4-3 pens).

After commiserating with their counterparts, the team went and celebrated with their supporters.

Bad weather has meant that many sporting fixtures have been cancelled or postponed until next term. PCWAFC can count themselves lucky that they were able to complete their Cuppers campaign before the Easter break.
