Professor Nigel Cooper selected as a Simons Investigator

Congratulations to Professor Nigel Cooper (Physics) on being selected as a Simons Investigator.

The program "provides a stable base of support for outstanding scientists, enabling them to undertake long-term study of fundamental questions" and is awarded to outstanding scientists from the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland. Individuals are nominated on the basis of their previous work and potential for creativity and excellence during the time they will be supported by the program.

The Simons Investigator Program announcement describes Professor Cooper's work as follows: "Nigel Cooper has shown how to design optical lattices for cold atoms that provide controllable laboratories for exploring the physics of interacting particles in the presence of gauge fields. He is also known for foundational works on the topological Kondo effect and on quantum oscillations in topological insulators."
