A Statement from the Master

A statement from Lord Smith, Master of Pembroke in response to Professor Stephen Toope's message about recent events in the United States:

“The tragedy of George Floyd has reminded us all too painfully that Black Lives Matter, not only in America, but here in Pembroke and in Cambridge too.  I share the Vice-Chancellor’s concern, and stand in solidarity with all those who know that we must strive to do better in future.”

Pembroke has comprehensive support already in place for its students, through Tutors, Directors of Studies, College counsellors, and the work of the Junior and Graduate Parlours; and that we will also be reviewing any additional action or support that might be needed, through the meetings of the Equality and Diversity Working Group which is chaired by the Master. In our Strategic Visions statement, "We show respect for all and value diversity” is at the heart of our Values.
