Pembroke College Cambridge

Monthly Blog Series

Each month we publish a blog which aims to delve into a particular or technical aspect of our wider annual theme, which this year is Intergenerational Conflict

Our June blog was written by Dr Conor Farrington (2004), Author and By-Fellow of Hughes Hall, who looks at the problems facing the future of the nation's security and the dilemmas that the next government will have to reckon with.

January -  Abby Reyes (2021), third year Anthropologist at Pembroke and Interviews Editor at Varsity, who introduces our theme and talks about the different ways that intergenerationality affects the unequitable and complicated world we live in.

February - Lord Smith, Master of Pembroke, tackles the theme of Intergenerational Conflict and calls for young people to make their voices heard and rescue our broken world from elderly short-termism.

March - Dr Julia Bird (2005), Economic Consultant, argues that politics must take into account the needs of as of yet unborn generations, and make a much needed value judgement on what Economic trade-offs are needed right now in order for there to be a future.

April - Richard Rawcliffe, Former William Pitt Fellow for Dell, looks at the results of a recent study of how Generation Z see the world and argues that in order for young people to grasp a future they must be supported by digital competency initiatives.

May - Dr Kate Parsley, Corporate Partnership Programme Manager and Bye-Fellow, asks if intergenerational conflict may come to a head at the upcoming election, and if the younger generations are being given a fair chance at life.

June - Dr Conor Farrington (2004), Author and By-Fellow of Hughes Hall, who looks at the problems facing the future of the nation's security and the dilemmas that the next government will have to reckon with.

In 2021, the Pembroke College Corporate Partnership Programme celebrated its 25th anniversary with a monthly Climate Rescue blog series, where our partners and collaborators shared their thought-leadership on climate rescue initiatives. In 2022 we continued our blog series but refocused our lens on Environmental Engagement and Leadership, and in 2023 we looked at The Future of Health. You can read our 2022 blog series, Environmental Engagement and Leadership, here and you can read our 2023 blog series, The Future of Health, here.
