Pembroke College Cambridge

Online Readiness

To study on the Online Capstone Programme, you'll need access to a computer as well as the personal commitment to independent study.

You'll need access to a computer with a webcam and internet access to attend your online supervisions, conduct research and submit work.

What online video platform will be used?

You'll decide with your supervisor which online video platform works best for you both, that way it'll be easily accessible. In general, we expect it to be: Google Meet, Skype, Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

As the platform you use for supervisions will be decided between you and your supervisor, we're unable to offer any specific IT support on the programme.

Key questions to consider

When applying for a place on the Online Capstone Programme, please think about whether you:

  • are able to dedicate the time required to successfully complete the programme alongside your other commitments. You'll be expected to spend 8 – 15 hours of independent study each week while on the programme.
  • have adequate computer and IT skills to complete an online programme.
  • have an appropriate set up (e.g. a study space in a calm, quiet environment) needed for independent study wherever you will be based.
  • have a reliable personal computer and Internet Service Provider.
  • have a fast enough internet speed to attend online supervisions without interruption.
  • have a back-up plan in place in case you have issues with your internet connection or device.
  • need any special arrangements or support that you have to discuss with the International Programmes department when applying for the programme.

You are best placed to decide whether the Online Capstone Programme method of teaching and learning is most suited to you and we look forward to receiving your application.
